In July 2010, Scotmid introduced a 2p charge for degradable single-use carrier bags in most of our stores with the profit from each bag purchased going to a local charity chosen by our store staff and customers.
Scotmid stores also sell heavy-duty plastic bags
and Fairtrade cotton Bags for Life.
Charities and organisations up and down the country have
benefited from this policy including hospices, schools and
community groups.
Our efforts to encourage our customers to slowly decrease their
usage of carrier bags - and get into the habit of bringing their
own bag with them when they shop with us - are progressing well as
part of our ongoing campaign to reduce usage in our stores by
one-third as well as reduce the amount of litter and waste in our
communities.
