Community & Charity
As a community based convenience retailer Scotmid continues to deliver a range of community based activities. We work with all areas of society from the Scottish Executive right through to small community groups in attempting to make a real difference.
As part of our new Membership Strategy our community activity will take on even more significance.
The Society has been a champion of Fairtrade for many years and we support Fairtrade events throughout Scotland in schools and many other organisations. We were delighted to be the main sponsor of the Edinburgh Fairtrade Directory. We have also just announced that we will be sponsoring the Edinburgh Fairtrade breakfasts for the next three years.
Scotmid also continues to support over 30 breakfast clubs. Fruit Waves, which helps many youngsters, receive fresh fruit on a daily basis and blender schemes also continue to receive our support.
We also nominate a Charity of the Year. The past year has seen us donate over £60,000 to CHAS (Children's Hospice Association Scotland and the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice).
Our new Charity for 2007/2008 will be Marie Curie Cancer Care.
