Fairtrade Award for Scotmid

Scotmid has won this year's top prize at Edinburgh's Annual Fairtrade Awards. The Society was recognised for its long standing achievements in promoting Fairtrade goods. The award was shared with the One World Shop a long time supplier and campaigner for Fairtrade products.

Fairtrade Award

Lord Provost George Grubb presented the awards at a special Edinburgh Fairtrade breakfast event held at the Council's Waverley Court HQ as part of Fairtrade Fortnight.

Judging was carried out by the Lord Provost and former Lord Provost Lesley Hinds, from a shortlist based on nominations from the public.

Lord Provost Grubb said, "The work of the award winners, and all those nominated, is really to be commended, and I was delighted to be able to congratulate them personally. The Fairtrade movement makes a real difference to the lives of those in communities less fortunate than our own."

Scotmid has been adding its support to a number of major activities during Fairtrade Fortnight (25th February to 9th March 2008). Our customers will also have noticed that we have converted all our tea and hot chocolate to Fairtrade.
